National EMS Scope of Practice
In 2005 the IAFP was invited to participate as a member of the National EMS Scope of Practice Model Review Team. The National EMS Scope of Practice Model provides a common foundation for States to use in establishing EMS scope of practice laws or administrative regulations. Although not mandatory, having a national model will improve state-to-state consistency of EMS entry level competencies and public understanding of EMS roles. The National EMS Scope of Practice Model also provides a basis for the development of National EMS Education Standards and National EMS Certification Examinations.
