Terms and Winnings!

The Tim Hynes Award recognizes exemplary abilities in Leadership, Education and Safety within the paramedic profession.   Every year the IAFP selects an exceptional paramedic who has demonstrated leadership and paramedic professionalism. Nominees must be IAFP members to be eligible to win.

The IAFP Board of Directors is requesting that you nominate an outstanding paramedic within your program for consideration for the 2009 Tim Hynes Award.  While it is our desire to be as inclusive as possible, the following criteria have been established:

  • All paramedics nominated for the Tim Hynes Award must be active members of the IAFP at the time of their nomination, and may not be sitting on the current IAFP Board of Directors.

  • While individual acts of heroism will be considered, our ideal candidate will have demonstrated a long-term commitment to promoting the paramedic profession.  Examples of this kind of commitment may include community service, public safety education, injury and illness prevention programs, enhancements in patient care, or safety of the transport environment.

The award recipient will receive: A check for $500 and a certificate of recognition.  The recipient also receives complimentary registrations to the CCTMC, a $175 FP-C Exam credit, as well as a one-year extension of IAFP membership.  The award was presented during the Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference, April 4-6, 2011, in Nashville, TN.  The Tim Hynes Award is sponsored by Bell Helicopter, a Textron Company.

January 11th, 2008, marked the 10th anniversary of the death of Tim Hynes, a founding member of the NFPA and past president. Prior to his death, the Tim Hynes Award was the Flight Paramedic of the Year award. It was renamed to honor Tim's spirit and contributions to our profession.

On January 11, 1998, Tim was killed when his air medical helicopter crashed while on a mission near Salt Lake City, UT.
