Presentation:  Neonatal Transport Care

Presentation Description:

  • Overview of neonatal transport for the new practitioner and non-neonatal practitioner.  Presentation will include discussion of the initial stabilization, differential diagnosis and treatment.  Facilitating the transport of the Peds/Neo team will also be discussed including equipment needs for ground, fixed and/or rotor wing transport.

 

By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

  • List common neonatal conditions and stabilization of life threatening conditions
  • Describe important aspects of neonatal transport
  • Describe the outcomes associated with effective neonatal transport

Presentation: Stabilization of Critically Ill Children

Presenters:

Presentation Description:

  • Discuss and demonstrate (hands-on skills) management of critically ill infants and children.  Simulator scenarios will be used for hands-on skills such as bag-mask ventilation, intubation, chest compressions, placement of venous/intraosseous lines, drainage of pheumothorax etc.

Skills practice on Laerdal SimBaby 

By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the anatomical and physiological differences between children and adults.
  • Discuss the signs of respiratory distress in children.
  • Demonstrate the management of a child with an unstable airway.
  • Describe and illustrate stabilization of pediatric trauma victim.
  • Describe post-arrest stabilization and transportation of pediatric patients.
  • Demonstrate techniques for IV therapy and insertion in pediatric patients.

This session will offer a didactic session followed by skills practice on Laerdal SimBaby and MegaCode Kid.

Lecturers will present evidence-based, updated information related to their topics, including medico-legal issues involved.
