  • Attn: EMS Historians--The National EMS Museum would like to know the history of your program or any air medical history, such as...Who was the first civilian paramedic in the US and which program did he/she fly for?  What was the first flight program in the country and what aircraft was utilized?  What are the various models of flight programs around the country?  If you know the answers to these questions, submit your information to the museum and become a part of Flight Paramedic history!
  • The IAFP has established a set of guidelines for State Chapter development and governance.   A manual, bylaws and other helpful documents have been drafted and are now available.

  • May 2007--URGENT! Grassroots Action Needed on Senate FAA Reauthorization Bill   AAMS needs your help in communicating to Senators the significant and urgent concerns the air medical community has with several provisions in Senate Bill 1300. The Senate plans to “markup” this Bill on Wednesday, May 16th.   More Info...

  • March 2007--IAFP board member, James Riley, presented NAEMT Immediate Past President, Ken Bouvier with the “Honorary Flight Paramedic” Award at the Southeast EMS Conference held at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Minnesota on March 16, 2007.  Press Release

  • Feb. 2007—The IAFP works with Alabama EMS Director, Denise Blair and Medical Director, John Campbell M.D., to address violations of current EMS regulations which do not allow paramedics in area flight programs to perform traditional RSI procedures.  An emergency legislative session is planned for early March to review and adopt a temporary regulation to allow new RSI standards for air transport. The IAFP has proposed a blue print for an EMS system that will harbor standard of care along with a critical care paramedic licensure. More to come…
 
  • Feb. 2007—IAFP offers assistance to ASTNA in supporting initiative for “Advanced Airway Management” position statement. The initiative calls for establishing standards for core education, continuing education, competencies and a Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement process that can provide outcome based studies to enhance Advanced Airway Management practices.

  • IAFP Members are invited to visit the FRC’s web site and sign the petition to make September 22nd National First Responder Appreciation Day.  In the third week of September, 2001 the full measure of sacrifices made by first responders during 9/11 came to light and thus September 22 was chosen as National First Responder Appreciation Day.

  • The Secretary of Transportation announces the establishment of a National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Advisory Council (NEMSAC) to provide guidance related to EMS to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). NEMSAC calls for a representative from the Air Medical Community.  Discussions have started within the AAMS GR Committee.
