Jeanne Wilkins
LifeFlight Eagle, Kansas City, MO
back
Jeanne received many separate letters of recommendation from her colleagues at LifeFlight Eagle. Her Program Director wrote:
Jeanne's contributions to LifeFlight Eagle consistently exceed the role and responsibilities of her position. Should you meet Jeanne, you'll quickly come to know that her endless energy, positive attitude, and eagerness to assist is unmatchable. There is passion in her work, compassion for her patients, and commitment to her team members-all of which make her a unique person and caregiver. The respect she garners from her peers and other team members reflects the trust and confidence others have for her.
Jeanne's involvement in education and training extends beyond serving as the LifeFlight Eagle Training Officer and the Kansas City area. She serves actively as faculty for regional and statewide EMT and Paramedic classes as well as ACLS, PALS, and BTLS; and has traveled to Chicago and Germany as invited faculty for programs such as "Critical Thinking" PEPP. At the 2002 AMTC, Jeanne was nominated by her peers to represent LifeFlight Eagle in the STARS competition.
The commitment Jeanne has consistently demonstrated toward
advancing the professional practice of flight paramedics should not go unrecognized.
The International Association of Flight Paramedics and Bell Helicopter Textron congratulate
Jeanne Wilkins as the Tim Hynes Award winner for 2003.

Barbara Dunham
Hillcrest Air Evac, Tulsa, Oklahoma
back
Barbara entered the first paramedic training course in Tulsa , OK , which
was sponsored by the four major hospitals in Tulsa and became nationally registered
in 1984. She began her paramedic career with the local EMS provider, holding
several positions including senior medic, field training officer, alternate
field operations supervisor, dispatcher, and assistant to the Medical Director.
She began her flight career in 1989, joining the Hillcrest AirEvac Team.
Once actively involved at Hillcrest AirEvac, Barbara again took on additional
responsibilities, joining the CQI committee which she began co-chairing in
1995, CISM training in 1996, payroll/ office assistant in 2001, in addition
to becoming proficient as a relief transport coordinator in Hillcrest AirEvac's
Dispatch Center . However, it is her delivery of patient care that she is
respected for, managing critical patients with ease, particularly scene calls
with multiple patients.
In addition, Barbara has been active as an Instructor in BLS, ACLS, PALS,
and BTLS. She can be counted on to step up at a moment's notice to give a
lecture if needed, demonstrating her extensive knowledge of a subject. She
is currently active in renewing Hillcrest AirEvac's Outreach Education Program
and is involved in the formation of a new CISM Team at Hillcrest Medical Center
.
Barbara is very active in Boy Scouts, following in her family footsteps. Her
maternal grandfather was posthumously awarded the Silver Beaver Award. She
has become a co-advisor of a Venturing Crew - coed group participating in
high-adventure activities, such as white water rafting, caving, rock climbing,
etc. Barbara is serving in this role along with her husband Marshall who is
a motorcycle police officer with the Tulsa Police Department.
Her commitment and leadership has influenced several youth to pursue careers
as an EMT or continue with military medical training. Barbara has not only
been a willing participant in the lives of many scouts, but just as important
is very active in the lives of her own children, seeing that they participate
in programs and achieve the goals they set for themselves.
Her compassion and commitment to community and family lead her to demonstrate
true empathy for any patient assigned to her care. It is for these qualities,
hard work and dedication that Barbara Dunham is the Tim Hynes Award winner
for 2002.

Thomas R. Madigan
Eagle III,
Green Bay, Wisconsin
back
The National Flight Paramedics Association would like to announce Thomas R. Madigan of County Rescue Services Inc. and EAGLE III in Green Bay, WI as the 2001 recipient of the Tim Hynes Award.
Mr. Madigan
has been involved in EMS since 1974 as a volunteer for his local rescue service.
He attended the first paramedic class offered in the state of Wisconsin and
has dedicated his career to improving the EMS services in the state of Wisconsin.
In 1982, Mr.
Madigan's employer ceased 911 rescue services to Brown County Wisconsin.
Tom organized County Rescue Services, Inc. and took filled the gap for EMS
services in the area. Tom had the foresight to consult with leaders
from various local businesses and made County Rescue Services and private,
non-profit charitable organization whose sole purpose is to provide quality
emergency medical care to the citizens of Northeastern Wisconsin without the
driving force of making a profit.
Over the years,
his vision has lead to the growth of County Rescue Services. In 1996,
Tom was able to put together a critical care transportation plan that was
accepted by the regional trauma center and regional cardiac center.
In 1997, EAGLE III began critical care level ground transport. Helicopter
operations began in January of 1999 using a Bell 407. The year 2000
showed more growth and a new EC 135 was ordered from American Eurocopter to
improve capability in this expanded role.
Currently,
the air medical service Tom started does not only medical flights, but also
assists area law enforcement agencies with searches and SWAT operations.
EAGLE III also assists outlying EMS and Fire agencies with search and rescue
capabilities, all free of charge. Recently Tom was approached by the
Commandant of the Great Lakes District of the United States Coast Guard with
a request to assist the Coast Guard with over water search and rescue operations
since the nearest USCG helicopter unit is 45 minutes away.
He serves
as the tactical medic for the Brown County SWAT Team and still goes out on
ground rescue calls and flights when called upon. He is a hands-on type
person who will roll up his sleeves and clean ambulances or the helicopter
when needed. Tom is also involved in local activities including the
Brown County EMS Council and the Brown County EMS Training and Standards Committee.
Tom has the
unique ability to "think outside the box" and foresee things 'in a way that
most others would not. He is not always right, and will be the first
to admit this. Tom has earned the lasting respect of his employees and
peers with his humble nature. It is because of these qualities and Tom's
never-ending drive to improve paramedic systems through continued education
and the utilization of cutting-edge technology to increase patient care and
outcomes that we feel Tom Madigan is deserving of the Tim Hynes award.
The other nominees considered
for their contributions to the paramedic profession were Donna Donaldson Farkas
from AirEvac Services in Phoenix, AZ for her commitment to education and community
outreach; Gustavo Mata from LifeFlight/Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami,
FL for his contributions in building the program; Judi Meyn from Hermann Life
Flight in Houston, TX for being a role model within her program and the local
EMS community; and Greg Vickers from Bannock Life Flight in Pocatello, ID
for his selfless commitment to EMS and the regional trauma program.
Congratulations to all the nominees.

Brian Reiselbara
First Flight, Melbourne, Flordia
back
This year's Tim Hynes Award recipient is Brian Reiselbara from First Flight in Melbourne, FL.
He
has been a National Registry paramedic since 1990 in California where he was
a SWAT Medic with the Los Angeles Police Department. He joined the First Flight
team in 1996 as a Flight Paramedic. He is an ACLS, PALS, BLS, and BTLS instructor,
and most recently, became the state coordinator for PHTLS. He is the
vice president and co-founder of the Space Coast Allied Health Program in
Melbourne which has provides continuing education for EMTs and Paramedics.
Through this program he sponsors the DOT Air Core Curriculum to encourage
paramedics and nurses to become involved in air medicine. He is one of the
co-organizer of the Annual Trauma Conference in Brevard County, FL.
Brian completed his Master's degree in Education in 1998 and is also a nationally
recognized lecturer.
Brian
has been recognized locally for rescuing a woman from a house fire.
He was off-duty and driving-by when he noticed smoke coming from a mobile
home. Mr. Reiselbara entered the residence and pulled the unconscious woman
from the smoke charged trailer. Without his quick action, the woman
would have died.
On
September 10, 1999, Brian was involved in the crash of First Flight's BO-105
in a swamp in Osceola County, FL en-route to a scene call at approximately
0300 hrs. Brian was the only crewmember to remain conscious and was
able to save the lives of the pilot and nurse by initially keeping their heads
out of the swamp water in which they were lying unconscious. After assessing
his personal situation, he pulled his teammates from the wreckage, assessed
them, and kept everyone together in the dark swamp until assistance arrived.
He helped direct the care of the team members, ignoring his own injuries,
including fractures to his scapula, iliac crest, and fibula.
Because
of his selfless commitment to paramedicine, aviation, and his co-workers,
the IAFP is proud to honor Mr. Brian Reiselbara as the year 2000 recipient
of the Tim Hynes Award. Congratulations Brian!
